The challenge
In 2020, with hygiene suddenly central to school life, Vivalys wanted pupils to wash their hands properly without wasting water, and to understand how much water a school day really uses.
What we installed
- Flow Mono & Flow Twin — on the hand-wash taps, measuring wash time and water used
- Awareness screen — hygiene score and water use, live in the school hall
What the data showed
A score everyone influences
Washing for at least 20 seconds turns the score green; turning the tap off while soaping raises it, leaving it running lowers it.
Data used in class
Pupils compare each day with the day before and use the data in maths: graphs, means and percentages.
Hot water and CO2
The CO2 display links hot-water use to fossil fuels, so children see the energy behind each wash.
Results
- Hygiene score ≈ 10/10 — almost every day, according to the class teacher
- Hand washing became a habit — children wash more often and better
- Water and energy awareness — part of the daily school routine
- Model replicated — same use case rolled out at École Robert Magnin, Neuvecelle
